Franzoseneinfall in Nidwalden 1798
2020
History on scene
The French Revolution, with its demands for freedom and equality, is one of the greatest achievements in history. Human rights were proclaimed - but spread with violence and war, everywhere in Europe, including Switzerland in 1798. The battles on the Allweg and Bürgenberg cost the lives of many people in both camps. The memorial landscape on the Bürgenberg traces the French invasion of 1798. On hiking trails, with podcasts, pictures and other visualisations, the events are remembered from two different perspectives.
